Shayna Carter: January 2026

Shayna Carter

January Lobby Artist

This January, the Town Square Community Center lobby gallery at 492 Hill St, Green Lake, WI features a photography exhibition by artist Shayna Carter. Her work will be on display throughout the month, inviting visitors to experience life through Carter’s lens during business hours.

Through film photography and experimental processes, Carter’s work explores curiosity, memory, and the quiet moments that shape how we experience the world. Her artistic journey began early, rooted in constant movement, outdoor exploration, and a lifelong desire to see what exists just beyond the familiar. From disposable cameras and Polaroids to a treasured 1976 Pentax K1000 passed down through generations, photography has remained a steady companion throughout her life.

Carter’s path as an artist has been forever evolving, marked by pauses, returns, experimentation, and discovery. Her practice embraces imperfection, from expired film and dismantled cameras to lessons learned in the darkroom, where even shadows carry meaning. Each image reflects an ongoing conversation between curiosity and courage, documenting not just what is seen, but what is felt.

“Being an artist is simply another way of breathing through the human experience,” Carter shares. “My hope is that through my images, you feel a little of that breath—of curiosity, of wonder, of life: unique to each of us, yet deeply shared.”

The public is invited to visit Town Square throughout January to experience this lobby gallery exhibition and engage with Carter’s thoughtful approach to photography and storytelling.
