Erika Scheer: December 2026
Erika Scheer
December Lobby Artist
Town Square Community Center invites the public to view the work of Lobby Artist, wood carver Erika Scheer, on display throughout the month of November in the lobby at 492 Hill Street, Green Lake. The lobby is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Erika Scheer is a fourth-generation wood carver, continuing a family tradition passed down from her father, who brought the skilled trade from Budapest, Hungary. Formally trained through apprenticeship, Erika honed her craft creating commissioned works that now reside in private homes throughout Southwest Florida — from Naples and Sanibel Island to Fort Myers.
Now living in Waupun, Wisconsin, Erika has shifted her focus to her own creative vision, exploring basswood, cherry, and walnut with applied color and gold or silver leafing. Using only chisels and mallets, her low-relief carvings — a traditional decorative form — have evolved into captivating dreamscapes infused with warmth, imagination, and the refined technique of a master artisan. Her original works have been exhibited in multiple juried shows throughout Wisconsin.
“Woodcarving is an ancient skilled trade that connects humans across cultures and time,” Erika explains. “Wood shelters us, feeds us, warms us, and even plays a major role in our spirituality and faith. It’s at these crossroads where I remove the excess to reveal a story.”
Her creative philosophy extends beyond tradition to sustainability. “My experimentations often involve wood scraps from other projects,” she adds. “I have a waste-not, want-not shop.”
Visitors to Town Square can experience Erika’s intricately carved works in the historic courthouse lobby, where her pieces invite viewers to reflect on craftsmanship, connection, and the stories hidden within each grain of wood.
