Animals take center stage at Town Square Community Center this September as the Lobby Gallery welcomes a special Art MidWisconsin exhibition featuring pets and other animals. The exhibit will be open to the public throughout the month during regular Town Square hours at 492 Hill Street in downtown Green Lake, with many of the featured works available for purchase to benefit the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter (GLAAS).

The exhibition brings together work by regional artists Sandy Blank, Nicole Conner, Joanne Burne, Pat Dobrinska, Jane George, Sarah McGowan, Carolyn Myers, Travis Nygard, Eileen Reilly, Angel Rettler and Julie Schaffer. Proceeds from artwork sold during the exhibit will be shared between the participating artists and GLAAS, which is celebrating its 33rd anniversary this year.

“I love that we are using art to celebrate the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter,” said Tanya Schwartz-Roeper, one of the exhibit organizers. “The artworks in the show capture the personalities of our pets, and any dog or cat lover will enjoy seeing them.”

Participating artist Travis Nygard, whose own dog was a rescue, said the exhibit offered an opportunity to combine his love of animals with his artwork while supporting an organization that benefits the community.

Visitors can view the exhibit Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. A reception will also be held Thursday, September 18, from 5:30–7 p.m. in conjunction with the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter's Celebration of Compassion event. The reception is free and open to the public.

Art MidWisconsin is a regional artists' collective that creates exhibition, sales, professional development and collaborative opportunities for artists throughout the area.
