Kids in the Kitchen

Calling all kids ages 9-12 years old. Fun, friends, and food...what kid doesn't like that? Kathy McCarthy of Mill Street Haven and Cooking School will be leading this fun, interactive camp.
It’s a three-day cooking and baking camp, 9 to noon, July 29-31. Kids will get hands-on experience and enjoy their creations. The goal is to have fun while they learn the joy of cooking and baking delicious meals and treats they can make for their families.
They will learn safe kitchen practices, work with fractions (measuring), learn to handle baking and cooking tools, and gain cooking confidence.
CLASS SCHEDULE
MONDAY
Mexican Fiesta! Kids will make tortillas, both corn and flour. These tortillas will be used for all kinds of dishes including quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos, burritos, etc. For this class, we will use these tortillas in a classic quesadilla with seasoned chicken, onion, cilantro, and homemade salsa.
For dessert, we will feature crème brulee, which is close to a traditional Mexican Caramel Flan, just a little less time consuming!
TUESDAY
Italia! This class will involve fresh made Pasta, where we will create an unforgettable linguine and homemade mozzarella meatballs with marinara sauce. We will also make an Italian breadstick to serve with the meal and an Italian Antipasta salad to complete the meal.
Then for dessert, we will feature Classic Pizzelles, a crispy delicious cookie that the kids can’t resist!
WEDNESDAY
Bring it Home with American Classics! This class will include some of the kids favorites and some new ideas too! Learn the secret to the perfect Hot Dog. Then we will move to a Canadian specialty, Poutine, Yummy French fries and cheese curds and gravy – don’t knock till you have tried it! We will end this meal with a homemade chocolate fudge sauce and an ice cream sundae bar!
