Colossal Fossil Traveling Exhibit - Coming to Town Square June 12 as part of the Jurassic Olympics.

When our own Amy Reese came up with the DINO-mite idea for Jurassic Olympics, she knew it would appeal to families from the Green Lake area and all around Wisconsin… and beyond. She worked with Town Square’s grant committee to seek funding to market the event, scheduled for June 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the Town Square Campus.

The Department of Tourism estimates the economic impact of this unique family-friendly experience to be $53,000. It will also be the kick-off of a series of Town Square events that will bring much-needed business to our local stores, restaurants, and lodging.

Jurassic Olympics is a “mammoth-sized” community event filled with fun, Jurassic-themed competitions, arts and crafts, educational presenters, unique photo opportunities, music, and a traveling Colossal Fossil exhibit. It’s designed to transform learning, creating, exercising, connecting, and competing into a fun and unique experience for kids.

The event also brings to Town Square a traveling dinosaur history exhibit containing museum-quality replicas of prehistoric artifacts from the Wausau-Based Colossal Fossil Museum.

You’ll have the opportunity not only to see dinosaur bones but to touch some as well. The exhibit includes “fossils” ranging from tiny shells to a Tyrannosaurus Rex jaw and a saber-tooth cat’s skeleton.

While no dinosaur fossils, bones, tracks, feces, or eggs have ever been found in Wisconsin, scientists believe they must have called this area home 65 million to 145 million years ago since it was not underwater.

One thing we know for sure… they’re going to be here soon!
