Tom Schultz: April Lobby Artist 2026
Tom Schultz
April Lobby Artist
From delicate feathers to vibrant flashes of color in flight, the natural world comes to life this April at Town Square Community Center through the detailed work of local artist and illustrator Thomas Schultz, featured in the April Lobby Artist Gallery.
Schultz, a well-known bird artist and professional illustrator, brings a lifelong fascination with nature into each of his works. His paintings highlight the beauty and diversity of birds, capturing both their form and the environments they inhabit with careful attention to light, texture, and mood.
“For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with the wonders and beauty of the natural world,” Schultz shares. “Birds in particular have always been a special interest of mine, and I enjoy their infinite diversities of shape, size, and color.”
Schultz’s work has been widely recognized and published, including illustrations featured in National Geographic’s Field Guide to North America’s Birds, as well as projects with the Smithsonian Institution, Houghton Mifflin Company, and other notable publications.
An active member of the local community, Schultz co-founded the Green Lake Bird and Nature Club and established the annual Green Lake Bird Fest, both of which continue to bring together nature enthusiasts from across the region.
In his artistic process, Schultz focuses on intimate moments in nature, often highlighting subtle details that might otherwise go unnoticed. “I frequently focus on small, intimate views of them in their world, appreciating the subtleties of lighting and texture that are unique to each element,” he explains. “Careful brushstrokes bring them to life, with the finished works hopefully sharing the joys of my experiences.”
The exhibition will be on display throughout April in the Town Square Lobby Gallery, 492 Hill Street in downtown Green Lake, and is open to the public during regular business hours—Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
