Distinguished Artist Melissa Dorn Richards to Offer One-Day Workshop at Town Square
Renowned artist Melissa Dorn Richards will be in Green Lake to share with participants the approach to her iconic blend of humor and abstract art at a one-day, all-day workshop on Saturday, August 11 from 10 am - 2 pm. The workshop is open to participants ages 16 and up and the registration fee of $90 includes a paint set, brush set, canvas and palette pad. Students are asked to bring their own sketchbook and colored pencils.
The workshop will explore humor by analyzing everyday objects and translating collected ideas and sketches into abstract paintings. Participants can expect to learn about color theory, the use and purpose of sketchbooks, and how to work with acrylic paint. The goal is to leave with at least one painting influenced by students’ sketches and ideas.
“We are so pleased to have such a prominent figure come to Green Lake and teach at Town Square,” said Kate Salas of Green Lake Renewal, the non-profit organization that operates Town Square Community Center. “This is our second summer bringing influential artists such as Dorn Richards to Green Lake, and we wouldn’t be able to do it without the support of our donors.”
