The Green Lake Bird and Nature Club is VERY EXCITED to share with you an upcoming presentation on The Restoration of Peregrine Falcons in Wisconsin with Dr. Eric Ratering and his falcon "PuckyAnn".
Dr. Eric Ratering has had an abiding interest in Peregrine Falcons after witnessing firsthand the decline and near-extinction of peregrines east of the Mississippi. He joined with many others in imagining the restoration of a sustaining population of peregrines, and in 1987 the Wisconsin Peregrine Society became a reality with Greg Septon as its founder. This program will focus on the success and current status of the restoration of Peregrine Falcons in Wisconsin.
Eric serves on the board of the South Dakota Raptor Trust which performs oversight for the Northern Plains Breeding Co-operative in Spencer, Iowa. This breeding co-operative maintains a captive reservoir of Siberian goshawks which would be the basis of a recovering wild population in the event of an ecological disaster and is part of a similar effort worldwide for many other sensitive raptor species.
Dr. Ratering has been a falconer for almost fifty years and is currently working to condition a wild adult female peregrine for release as a volunteer through Neenah-based, Aves Wildlife – Beka Weiss, Director. He is a dentist, and has resided and worked in the Green Lake area for many years.
Eric and his falcon "PuckyAnn" are looking forward to seeing you all for what will be an interesting and informative
