On Friday, March 4, please join us in welcoming Stephanie Leisering. A reception will be held from 5:00 pm - 6:00pm.
Stephanie was born in Elgin, Illinois in 1985. She was interested in the visual arts from a very young age and continued that into high school where she attended the Renaissance School for the Arts. Then after high school, she studied sculpture and painting at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley. She then received her BFA from The Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. While she had always been involved in the arts she recently choose to focus more on expanding her presence in the art community. She is also currently a member of The Modern Quilt Guild and a member of The Fond du Lac Artists Association.
I like to use many different mediums in my work from fiber works, acrylic paintings, collages, and mixed media. I am also very much interested in incorporating reusing and recycling objects into my art. I like to incorporate fabric scraps and salvages, also old t-shirts, recycled cardboard, old magazine scraps, and papers. I have always continued with that idea in my art of layering and adhering those multiple layers together either by means of gluing or sewing them together. Currently, I have been experimenting with modern quilting and art quilts which to me can be more like a fabric collage, and then you can also "draw with thread".
I really like to go shopping at thrift stores, art supply stores, and quilt shops. I am highly influenced by images and things from popular culture, I especially enjoy and look back to the 1980s and 1990s. So some of my works may have images from cut-up or salvaged magazines, toys, t-shirts, books, and objects that I had or even may have wanted as a child growing up.
