The “Singing Sculpture” – Music Returns to The Market at Town Square
If you were at the Friday market a couple of weeks ago, you might have heard the acoustic sounds of Peter Brush coming from behind one of the two Lester Schwartz sculptures that flank Town Square’s entrance.
So, no, the sculpture wasn’t singing, but Peter found the location to be a creative way to socially distance from everyone. We were excited to have Peter volunteer his time to play for the shoppers, vendors, and walker-byers and look forward to him playing for future markets to come.
Peter, whose permanent residence is Libertyville, IL, is a fourth-generation summer resident of Green Lake. His great grandfather, of the O’Callaghan clan, purchased the family retreat back in the 1890s. His grandmother and extended family even played at The Thrasher Opera House in the roaring 20s, performing skits and music. This summer Peter’s granddaughter will become the sixth generation to enjoy the small lake town he loves so much.
Recently, Peter mentioned to longtime family friend, Mary Cyrier, that he has volunteered to play acoustic folk and rock music at local events back in Libertyville and wondered if he could do the same at Town Square. Mary, a Town Square board member, quickly connected Peter to the staff to make it happen.
A financial advisor by day and a musician by night, Peter began playing music for his young kids after a neighbor taught him how to play the guitar. Performing live is Peter’s way to relax. “It’s my golf.” he said.
“I hope that the community enjoys the atmosphere the music brings to The Market.” says Peter. “Green Lake is a special place for me, and I am happy I can be part of it doing what I love.”
Peter will accept donations for his CD, Lake Time, available at The Market. All proceeds will benefit Town Square Community Center programs and events.
