NATIONAL GIVING TUESDAY NOW MOVEMENT ON MAY 5
April 27, 2020, Green Lake, WI – With Town Square shuttered due to the Safer at Home Order, and regular community center revenue streams cut short, the Green Lake community center is joining in a national effort to get non-profit organizations through the national crisis: Giving Tuesday Now on May 5, 2020. Town Square’s ambitious goal: to raise $20,000 on that single day.
Giving Tuesday has become an international movement that regularly takes place on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. This year, because of Covid-19 has impacted so many important non-profit organizations, the Giving Tuesday organization has added Giving Tuesday Now, a special day of giving to help fill the gap.
Town Square, established in 2012 in the vacated, former Green Lake County courthouse buildings, is just eight years old, but has become a driving force in moving the community forward. It is one of the few community centers in the nation that operates without any tax dollars.
“Like any eight year old, Town Square needs help to get through the rough spots,” said Town Square Board President Fran Hill. “Our entire community has been so generous and worked so hard to create this great place where we’re all working together. And together, we will get through this.”
Giving Tuesday Now donations will help keep many of Green Lake’s most important community programs going, including farm markets, kids programs, the arts, fitness and wellness, small business support, and community celebrations and gatherings.
“With everyone living separate lives right now,” said Hill, “I think that we all realize more than ever the power of community.”
