Town Square Community Center Awarded Grant from the Wisconsin Historical Society for Historic Structure Report

Preserving Town Square's History

Town Square Community Center is excited to announce that it has been awarded a $30,000 grant from the Fuldner Architectural and Historical Heritage Fund towards funding a Historic Structure Report (HSR) for the building that houses the Community Center, the former Green Lake County Courthouse. This grant will provide vital historical insight, an in-depth assessment, and key recommendations for preserving and maintaining the historic structure.

The Historic Structure Report will be conducted by historic preservation architect Charles Quagliana and will include a comprehensive review of the building's history, architectural features, and current condition. The report will also outline preservation strategies to ensure the long-term viability and integrity of Town Square, which has served as a central gathering place for the Green Lake community since its construction in 1898.

The former Green Lake County Courthouse is on the National Historic Register and is an iconic building that has played a significant role in the history of Green Lake, Wisconsin. The courthouse was in active use as a government building for over 100 years before being repurposed as the Town Square Community Center in 2012. The building has seen many changes over the years, but its historic charm and architectural beauty have remained a key feature of the downtown Green Lake area.

The grant from the Fuldner Architectural and Historical Heritage Fund aligns with the organization's ongoing efforts to protect and preserve Wisconsin's historic landmarks. The completed Historic Structure Report will help Town Square Community Center make well-informed decisions on future restoration and preservation projects, ensuring that the building’s historical character is maintained while continuing to serve as a community resource.
